A Texas Legend
“The legend grows with every court we build.”
—DAVID SPRADLING, OWNER
It has been said that on long cattle drives Texas cowboys would gather next to the chuck wagon after a hard day of cattle driving and relax—rolling round river stones collected along the Pecos, Rio Grande, or Red River. This tradition was established after they found out tossing stones was better than tossing “cow chips”—cow patties, that is, for you Northerners. After the game, “Cookie” (the cook), would store the special stones in a wooden box known as the “Bocce Box”. They didn’t know why he called it that, he just did. So the cowboys played bocce during the trail drives because “Cookie” named it that.
From cattle drives on the old Chisholm Trail, to famous towns like Abilene, Fort Worth, Dallas, and San Antonio, Texas bocce grew to its current popularity as a Texas legendary sport. Now you can find bocce enthusiasts playing bocce in the capital city of Austin, along the famous San Antonio Riverwalk, and in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. From humble beginnings to metropolitan glamour, Texas bocce has come of age. The fun, competition, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle have made bocce one of the fastest-growing leisure sports in the Lone Star State.

Texas Hill Country Classic
(Outside San Antonio area will incur additional travel expenses)
- Border: Limestone
- Gravel: Crushed Limestone
- Surface: Decomposed Granite
- Elevation: Above Ground
From the border to the gravel and the mortar to the playing surface, each and every component of our bocce courts is an authentic Texas material. The chopped limestone blocks which compose the surround (or border) of the court are quarried from the Hill Country north of San Antonio and each block is chopped to a random length to give our courts a true look of old-west character. We use crushed limestone gravel from the same Hill Country quarries to give our courts’ sub-level a quality foundation. Our playing surface is available in a variety of materials, but our most popular is the finely-crushed granite from Marble Falls, Texas. This granite provides better drainage, quick drying time, and is easy to maintain. Even the concrete and mortar we use is produced by Alamo Cement—a hundred-year-old Texas company. Each of these materials keeps our bocce courts truly authentic as a “Texas Classic”.

Customer Testimonials
Bocce Pros of Texas came out and quoted for our bocce court. They gave me a straight-forward, all-in price and installed the court to the highest standards exactly when they said they would. I would recommend David and his team to anyone who wants a quality installation at a fair price. —Mark Bidmead
We had a large bocce court built 12 years ago and much of the lumber used for rails etc., required replacing. I found David Spradling, of Bocce Pros of Texas on the internet and asked him for ideas on replacing the old and upgrading the whole court. He came out with his construction foreman, looked the situation over, and within a few days provided me with an offer to redo and upgrade the entire court and surrounding area. I accepted his ideas and he had a four-man crew begin construction after the contract was signed. Rick, his foreman, was a professional in every sense of the word as well as all members of his crew. These guys knew what they were doing and did a complete tear down and rebuild using stone blocks in four days. I figured it would take at least a week and perhaps 10 days. All aspects of the work site were cleaned and organized each day before they left. As I said earlier, these guys were professional in every sense in the word. David, the owner, was a pleasure to do business with. —Lyle Pettit
Our History
Bocce Pros was conceived as a possible business after successfully completing a bocce court which one of our landscape clients requested. The bocce court was designed to use materials that were accessible from the area and would complement the local architecture and style. Set in the Texas Hill Country, the property for the bocce court was located in Boerne — a town full of rustic charm. The old home had been renovated as well as the adjacent property’s old garage which had been transformed into a game/recreation area. A pool was added along with an outdoor entertaining area, including a large bar-b-que pit. Our client was an avid bocce player and when he expressed a desire for a bocce ball court, we designed a court to compliment the rustic atmosphere of his home and the Texas property. Thus the Texas Hill Country Classic Bocce Ball Court was brought into play and has continued to grow in popularity. Since the design and construction of our initial bocce court in 2007, we continue to build customized bocce courts throughout Texas. We have built courts for residential back yards, restaurants, hunting ranches, and municipalities. Two courts where constructed for a restaurant on the San Antonio River called “The Luxury” (an oxymoron). Its atmosphere is Texas-casual with an outdoor seating area and a large fire pit. The kitchen, bar, and restroom are made from repurposed shipping containers and the bocce courts were designed to coordinate with the country style. Also, we built two “Hill Country Classic” bocce courts for the city of Trophy Club in the Dallas area. Being passionate about bocce ball, the residents of the community convinced the city leaders to provide a bocce recreational venue for adults.
